There are two walks through town from which you can enjoy the architecture and history of this beautiful place. Adjoining the town centre there are major parks through which the river Allier flows. Furthermore, there are some medieval gems like mustard town Charroux, wine town St. Pourçain-sur-Sioule with the oldest vineyards of France, however towns like Gannat Ebreul Riom and Thiers are also very attractive.

In the area there are numerous signposted walking trails of varying distances which run through the hilly landscape of the Allier.

The quiet lanes make cycling very attractive, though because of the hilly landscape, a bike with gears is recommended.

Culture and nature:


There are several wine and castle trails which you can start from Castel Bois Clair. The Allier is known as an area “with a castle on every street corner”. A spin through the Gorges de la Sioule is magnificent. The road follows the course of the river Sioule. The Puy de Dome with its volcanic landscape is also within reach.

East of Castel Bois Clair you can find the splendid low mountain range La Montagne Bourbonnaise with its Roman churches and unspoilt nature.
